One local realtor is going the extra mile this month to help the Okotoks Food Bank keep its fresh produce supply stocked.

The Jay Magnuessen Real Estate Group has started the 21 Day Food Bank Challenge in hopes of raising $2,500 for fresh food for the Food Bank.

Business Manager Savannah Magnussen-Afonso says this type of fundraiser covers an area of donations that aren't as common, but necessary for the Food Bank's operations.

"The money that we raise specifically from this challenge will all go to purchasing fresh food, which will be a combination of fruits, vegetables and dairy products, things that aren't typically donated by people," she says.

With the Alberta economy in the state that it's in and more people going to the Food Bank for help, Magnussen-Afonso says the hard work the staff at the Food Bank is doing to keep families shelves full of food is incredible and the challenge is to help take some of the load off of them.

"It's not something that they rely on once in every six months, it's weekly and they're becoming a big part of family nutrition plans. We want to really focus on making more nutritious and fresh options available for those people who are using the food bank."

Magnussen-Afonso says the challenge is simple.

"You can nominate anyone, a person or a business and you'd essentially just tag them on social media and challenge them to make a $25 donation through the Food Bank's website and there's a button on there where you can select the 21 Day Food Challenge fund so we can track the donations that are associated with this."
