Okotoks residents may receive a knock on their door from the Conservation Educators this summer.

The summer students make it their mission to make sure residents are aware of the Town's sustainability efforts.

Logan Bennett, conservation educator, says it's important they make sure residents stay informed on water restrictions.

"In the summer that's when a lot of water issues arise when people are using their outdoor water systems, even playing in sprinklers with the kids, all that stuff really adds up and it's our responsibility to educate the public and make sure they're managing their water use appropriately so it's less likely there's a full on ban and to make sure people are following the watering schedule."

The group has a goal of visiting 2,300 households this summer and will also be set up at events ran by the Town like Busker Fest and Taste of Okotoks.

Bennett says aside from promoting water conservation they also focus on waste reduction.

"We also try to promote the new Eco Centre and what an awesome service it is for people," he says. "There's not much you can't recycle so we really try to get that across to people. We're also promoting a lot of the programs in town like the universal blue bins and the upcoming organics bins as well so everyone's getting a green bin hopefully this fall."
