It's National Impaired Driving Prevention Week, which means integrated RCMP traffic units will be out in full force with Check Stops.

Constable Mike Hibbs says it won't be just the Mounties.

"We're going to be teaming up with our Sheriff partners across the province, in doing various check stops. We're also going to be bringing in police officers trained in standardized field sobriety tests and also our drug recognition experts."

He says the reason for that, is the increasing number of fatal crashes involving drivers high on drugs.

Hibbs says overall in 2016, 30 per cent of all fatal crashes in Alberta were caused by drunk or high drivers.
