With a change of seasons can come a change in call volume for the Okotoks Fire Department.

Fire Chief Ken Thevenot says the amount of calls they're receiving is starting to come down.

"Our total responses year-to-date is 780, " he says. "Last year at this time we were at 709 which is 71 responses ahead of last year. Earlier in the summer were about 107 and now we're down to 71 which is a good thing."

From Sept. 14 to Sept. 20 the Okotoks Fire Department had 19 responses, which included one fire call, 11 public service calls, five alarm system activations, and two motor vehicle incidents.

Thevenot says a switch in seasonal activities can factor into the department's call totals.

"I think with change of season at times we've experienced a bit more in call volumes," he says. "The summer was fairly quiet for us, so with the different change of seasons I think it brings different times when people are out doing different activities so it could be a time where our call numbers would increase."

The department is now getting prepared for Fire Prevention Week at the beginning of October.
