Change is in the air for Okotoks.

After seeing daytime maximum temperatures in the mid to high teens for the past few days a big shift is on its way.

An intense low pressure system that's formed over Grande Prairie will sweep across the province this afternoon, bring a cold front along with it.

Brian Proctor, Meteorologist with Environment Canada, says expect some brisk weather over the next week or so.

"We're going from a high of 16 today to a high of six tomorrow for the Okotoks area, and overnight lows below freezing. It's going to be a little bit of a different pattern, and we start to rebound a little bit towards the end of the work week. We're sort of sitting on the cusp of really fall setting in strongly, so we'll start seeing temperatures decreasing through the weekend and into the early part of next week."

Along with some cooler temperatures, there's also a chance Okotoks could see some snow tonight.

"We have a chance of flurries tonight, we'll probably get some rain showers in behind that cold front, but they might flip over to flurries overnight. We're looking at an overnight low of minus five so I would expect if any precipitation does fall we'll see a light dusting."

The low pressure system, which will sweep southeastwards this afternoon will also bring strong winds with it.

A wind warning has been issued for the Okotoks area, winds of 70 gusting 100 km/h or more will develop today, but are expected to diminish by the late afternoon.
