Alberta Senior's Week is celebrating it's 31st year, it's a time to recognize everything the wiser demographic do in communities throughout the province.

In Okotoks, Family and Community Support Services in partnership with local senior's residences and the Okotoks and District Seniors Club will hold a Seniors Celebration, involving lunch, tea, and entertainment for 400 people on June 9, to show seniors how much the town appreciates them.

Sian Anderson, FCSS and Volunteer Administrator with the Town Of Okotoks, says it's important to say thank you to the older generation in Okotoks.

"Seniors have contributed so much to our community, none of us would be where we are without the older population in our community. It's not only important to recognize, appreciate, and connect with them, but for our youth to be highly involved with them too. We have youth volunteers come to the event and get involved, so we can have everyone come together."

Anderson explains seniors are some of the most active volunteer participants in our community, offering their time to each other and many organizations as well.

She adds there are many ways to get involved and show gratitude for the elderly this week, and throughout the year.

"There are lots of opportunities to get involved, you can go to a senior's residence and get involved on that level, by volunteering to visit people living there. You can also contact the town and become a Snow Angel, lots of people cant shovel their own snow anymore, basic things like that make a huge difference in the lives of people."

Seniors Week in Alberta runs until June 11.
