The culmination of a lot of hard work will be on display Friday Sept. 23 in High River.

Cathy Couey with the High River and District Health Care Foundation says the newly expanded Community Cancer Care Centre will be unveiled.

"We are looking forward to the centre looking after it's first patients likely the week of Sept. 19 and then later in the week, celebrating an Open House and inviting everyone in the community to come in and see what they've done and what they've built, and what impact they've had on that facility," she says.

She says the $1.6-million was entirely fundraised through the hard work of the Rotary Club and through the donors throughout the community. The project was launched in May of 2013, a month before the devastating flood that hit the Town and surrounding area however the Rotary Club made good on it's pledge to raise $500,000.

"It's been so great to see, the community has been really creative in supporting this project," Couey says. "We had a woman in Black Diamond celebrating her 75th birthday and that's what she wanted for birthday presents, was for people to donate to the Cancer Care Close to home campaign, there was just many people with great ideas wanting to do their part."

The Open House is set for Friday September 23 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the first floor of the High River Hospital.
