Gas prices have dropped just in time for the Canada Day long weekend.

Dan McTeague, Senior Petroleum Analyst for Gas Buddy says it's due to the long time drop in oil prices.

"It's something that may come as a surprise to the rest of the country but not to those of us in Alberta, low oil prices and very high rates of gasoline production are leading to [what looks like] a glut in oil has turned into a glut in gasoline."

What's better than low gas prices over a long weekend? Low gas prices that last even longer.

McTeague says he's anticipating another drop in fuel prices, and it should last a couple of weeks.

"Well I think it will last the next couple of weeks anyways." He shares "I wouldn't want to guesstimate past the middle of July, there could be other factors that trigger a sudden decrease in gasoline production, like refinery issues which are common, specially in the US mid--west."

Currently prices around town are sitting in the $99.9 range, while Costco is advertising $88.9.

McTeague is predicting another price reduction, just in time for the long weekend to wrap up.

"We saw the price move up to 99, but just as quickly as it's risen to 99, it's likely to drop 2-3 cents/litre between now and next week, perhaps even starting as early as Saturday or Sunday throughout this Canada Day Holiday Long Weekend."
