The phones at the Okotoks Lions Campground have been ringing off the hook, as today, May 1, 2017 is their opening day.

The campground has one camper in already, and they expect it to get even busier as the week progresses.

Pauline Krause, Lions Campground Manager, says the warm weather forecasted this weekend should make for a very successful opening week.

"Today we had 5 locals that booked sites for this weekend, so they want to come out and try it and its a nice weekend, so we get lots of people from Okotoks."

There are 55 full service sites at the Lions Campground, and 6 tent sites for those who want the full outdoor experience.

Krause shares everyone from locals to Europeans camp at the site throughout the summer, she recommends booking early to ensure a campsite.

"Its very busy, so we recommend if you want to com here and stay that you phone and book ahead, its easier to book for a weekend you want than try to get it a week before."

The Campground will be open until September 30.

Other campgrounds open for the season in the area include Riverbend, and the George Lane Campground in High River.
