The curtain officially goes up Friday night for the Dewdney Player's production of Calendar Girls.

The production is inspired by the motion picture based on a women's club that raises money for a local hospital where one of the character's husband dies from leukemia and the group raises money through a calendar with them bearing it all.

President of the Dewdney Players Ed Sands says you will be entertained by the plot and the effort their local actresses go through.

"When the girls are poising for their calendar they are totally naked on stage with modesty preserved with props," he says. "So bless their hearts, these girls are so brave, they have been totally professional about it."

Like the movie, The Dewdney Players will also be selling their own version of Calendars with all the proceeds going to the Foothills Country Hospice.

Sands says it's a great way to not just entertain the community but also help the community at the same time.

"The show carries a lot of emotion, probably fair to say everybody's been touched by cancer in one way shape or form whether its leukemia or any of the other varieties of cancer and there's very exciting personalities in the play, we range from very shy characters and to very bubbly, devilish characters."

He says the show will be a must see and there's already been a couple of sellouts so if you're planning on seeing the production you should get your tickets now.

"Tickets are available at www.okotoksculture.ca, and you can surf around and find the event link to buy the tickets online VISA and MasterCard are accepted, also available at the Okotoks Art Gallery 938-3204," Sands says. "Door open at 6:30 and curtain is at 7:30."
