Strathmore R.C.M.P have arrested and laid charges to three individuals who were connected with an identity theft and fraud group.

30-year old Andrew Bruggeman from Edmonton, 25-year old Stephani Fink, and 36 -year old Dwayne Ireland, both from Calgary, have been charged with multiple offenses including but not limited to fraud, identity theft and possession of stolen or fraudulently obtained property. Stephani Fink was also arrested for being in breach of her probation, and Dwayne Ireland was arrested with outstanding warrants.

Officers were tipped off when an employee at a Strathmore's hotel called the RCMP to report a man staying at the hotel, who had booked and paid for his room using fraudulent Aeroplan points. When Strathmore R.C.M.P responded they were able to speak to the man, who then said he had other credit cards, and gave them a photo I.D. This I.D. card was found to be fraudulent when an officer was able to pull the picture off, revealing a forged license with a fake name.

Upon return to the hotel room, the R.C.M.P found two accomplices and over $40 thousand dollars in merchandise.  Police recovered items such as prepaid credit cards, cell phones, computers, and clothing. Strathmore R.C.M.P officers say a small amount of methamphetamine was found in the room as well.

The trio will appear in Gleichen provincial court on the 15th of Dec.

Anyone who believes they have been a victim of identity theft is encouraged to contact their local police service. Information on identity theft prevention can be found by clicking here.
