Okotoks Culture is working to bring the arts to different communities in town.

A new initiative called Pop Up in the Park will be venturing throughout Okotoks communities with entertainment for the whole family.

Allan Boss, culture and heritage manager for the Town of Okotoks, says they wanted to change up the scenery from downtown.

"We decided to come up with a notion of putting on an event in a town park that's outside of downtown. We have a lot of events downtown which is fabulous and it's wonderful but what about the other little communities that are out there and how do we support them."

Boss says Cimarron Park is a great location for the first Pop Up in the Park.

"It's not just for the residents of Cimarron, part of the reason we chose this park is because of all the pathways that lead into it from different locations and also because it's close to St. Mary's School and there's free parking there that's available and it's easily walk-able to the park, you just go across the field and you're there."

He adds the hope is next year other communities will come forward and request Pop Up in the Park to be held in their neighbourhood.

The event will include live music, arts and crafts, Goodger Pink will be presenting Rumpelstiltskin, Busker's Fest winner Braden Pole will be performing live magic, and the Conservation Educators will be holding a scavenger hunt.

Pop Up in the Park is scheduled for Saturday from 12- 3:00 p.m.
