The Foothills School Division could be adding another alternative program in the future.

Brant Christian School approached FSD in the late fall saying they'd like to relocate between Okotoks and High River within the division's boundaries.

John Bailey, superintendent of FSD, says the division is interested in exploring the addition of more alternative programs.

"Alternative programming is really driven by parent demand so when there's a sufficient number of parents or families that say they're interested in alternative programming then we'll look at it... very similar to our French immersion and Montessori programming."

BCS currently holds approximately 90 students in grades K to 12.

Bailey says BCS has expressed potential for growth.

"Their approach is they would see their school growing and expanding if they were located within the Foothills region," he says. "My understanding is the vast majority of their students already reside within Foothills so they're bussed out to Brant each day and for a family in Okotoks that could be a pretty long day especially for a small child."

A letter of intent was signed by FSD board chair Christine Pretty for BCS which basically says the division and school will continue to have discussions.
