Okotoks emergency crews responded to a call at Bradley's Grill House around 3:40 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.

It is believed that during the thunderstorm lightning struck the roof top of the building and filled the restaurant with smoke.

Fire Chief Ken Thevenot says when response teams arrived the building was evacuated.

"On arrival they had the doors open, all patrons and employees were evacuated from Bradley's Grill. We gained access into the building and we found there was light smoke inside."

Thevenot says after assessing the building the rooftop unit was struck.

"We went to the roof to find that it appears possibly that lightning hit the rooftop unit and burnt out the motor, or seized it. We then did an assessment with our thermal imaging camera, checked for hot spots and determined it was just that one rooftop unit."

The gas and electrical was then cut off to the unit and the owner called an electrician for further assessment.

No one was harmed in the incident.
