Bow Valley College is making it easier for childcare workers to earn their certificate.

The Early Learning and Childhood Certificate, which use to be called Level 2, is now the Child Development Worker Certification.

Samantha Schellenberg, business development lead, says the program has some modifications which makes it easier to complete while living in a rural area.

"We had a series of consolations and figured out exactly what needed to be changed in the structure of our program."

She added it is a modified delivery that they came up with after talking to the Foothills Children's Wellness Network and a number of organization that are part of it.

"It is going to be in the evenings and the weekends and very flexible with an in person instructor which is something we were asked for by the community."

It will allow rural placements for practicum's.

"No one will have to leave their childcare job in order to go take their practicum in Calgary. We are going to switch that around so it is going to be local and they can keep their job and go to school part-time. It is going to be a one year program."
