If you thought housing prices were expensive in the Foothills, you wouldn't want to be building an air hangar in Nanton.

The Bomber Command Museum is looking to expand, but is facing one major hurdle; Cost.

Dan Fox, V.P. of the Museum says they've come a long way since they first started in 1985.

"When we started out, we had an empty field and an old Lancaster.  Now we've got quite a few more things and a 40,000 Sq ft building, and we're wanting to add another 40." Fox says it will be quite the expenditure "We're adding on another hangar to the North West of the present museum, the latest estimate is 5.3 million to build it, so we're raising money through fundraisers to get started."

So far, the Nanton Lancaster Society has one event planned, a big Hangar Hootenanny is in the works and will take place on Saturday May 13th.

Fox says it will feature a silent auction, and a live one with some pretty great prizes.

"On May 13th we're having a live, and silent auction Hangar Hootenanny, tickets are available at the museum for $75 a piece, and people can come and enjoy the evening, there will be a roast beef dinner served and Chris Koch a local character, with a great sense of humour, will be the M.C."

Some prizes are of aviation related which include airplane rides or helicopter excursions, featured artwork, WWII artifacts, and a chance to be a passenger in the Lancaster when they do their engine start up at 10 P.M.

Tickets can be purchased at the museum, they are $75 each, with $50 of each ticket eligible for a tax receipt.
