Okotoks is set to host a couple of blood donor clinics over the next few months, and the demand for more donors is always there.

Director of Donor Relations Susan Matsumoto says they've had a great response for the summer donor clinics.

"We're fully booked at this point," she says. "We're fully booked at this point for the Tuesday clinic which is terrific, we do have a few spots open for the clinic on Aug. 5."

Matsumoto says they're absolutely floored by the number of booked times to donate blood this year and acknowledge those that give time to help save a life.

"We really appreciate people booking with appointments in the summer," she says. "We hope that they will be able to show up for them, and if individuals feel they can't keep their appointment to please do let us know, so we can book someone else into that spot.

Matsumoto says even with full reservations, the clinics still take in walk-ins at anytime as well.

Both clinics on Tuesday and August 5th are at Holy Trinity Academy and Masumoto says Canadian Blood Services are in need of all blood types but emphasize on the need for O-negative blood for emergency situations.

"O negative whole blood is the universal donor," she says. "So any kind of situation where there isn't time to blood type someone and you don't know they're blood type, you transfuse O- blood into anyone."

Tuesday's donor clinic goes at 3 p.m. till 8 p.m. at HTA.
