The Town of Black Diamond is getting ready to name their new Mayor and Councillor with the Town's by-election on Monday.

Glen Fagan is the second candidate for the mayoral seat, running against Les Millar.

Fagan has been involved in the Tax Payers Group over the past 18 months and says that over that time he has learned quite a bit about how council operates by going to more than just meetings.

"Our experience has also been attending committee meetings because there are multiple committees that citizens and councillors are a part of."

Fagan adds this has helped him understand how the Town and council work together.

He looks forward to the possible opportunity of representing the town and the best interests of the community.

Fagan says, when it comes to issues such as the possible amalgamation of Black Diamond and Turner Valley he will support it if it is the best thing for the community and doesn't cost the taxpayers any more money. However, he believes that both communities should have a say first.

"It should then move forward with a plebiscite, each community should have the right to vote on this, and it should not be passed without the community getting to vote."

Fagan explains communication between the Town and the public is a concern to voters.

He plans on fixing this problem by doing something as simple as opening up council, or another public place, to allow people to come in and express concerns.

"It will be just a round table discussion where the community can come in and ask anything that they want without there being a formal agenda."
