A local bakery is marking a major milestone for local businesses in the Foothills.

Tuesday, George Nielsen is celebrating 30 years as owner of the Black Diamond Bakery. For the past three decades Nielsen has served the foothills with Danish baked goods and other tasty treats.

Nielsen says the bakery has expanded business since his family's takeover.

"When I bought it the front was just a bakery then a few years later I added the restaurant so now we're a full restaurant with breakfast and lunch."

Nielsen adds early in the bakery's life, the owners lived in the back of the building but says now it's being used as a storage area.

The bakery was founded in 1959 on the north side of Centre St. and 1st Ave. and then moved to it's current location in 1960.

Nielsen says he's appreciative of the support from Foothills residents and staff.

"I really appreciate the loyalty from our customers over the years," he says. "Thank you to all the staff who've contributed to our success over the years, without them it wouldn't have been possible."

For the special occasion Nielsen is offering free cake and goodies to customers on a first come first serve basis.
