While it may feel like warmer spring weather will never happen, it's important to be prepared for the eventual snow melt.

Temperatures are forecasted to remain below zero for the rest of the week but next week temperatures are expected to be back above zero and may even hit double digits.

Ken Thevenot, Okotoks Fire Chief, says looking at downspouts on buildings is important.

"Just make sure your downspouts are pointed away from the home to keep potential water from going into your residence if there is any issues. Low windows and any accumulation of water near your house could seep through so make sure the downspouts are connected and water can get a good distance away from your house when the snow melts."

He adds the freeze-thaw cycle going from daytime warmth to cool temperatures over night lead to icy conditions and residents should be cautious when walking and driving.

This spring has seen a slower start for the fire department as they responded to 17 calls this past week. That total includes three motor vehicle collisions, seven medical responses, three fires, three alarm system activations, and one gas leak.
