If residents are looking to stay active this winter and help out others, then the Snow Angels program could be for them.

The Town of Okotoks volunteer Snow Angels program is for residents who are looking to help others in their neighbourhood by shovelling snow off their sidewalks and driveways.

Sian Anderson, volunteer administrator for the Town, explains how the process of being a snow angel works.

"We do an intake with residents and then we match them with a volunteer, and generally those volunteers are going to be living in the same neighbourhood so it's a good fit for the volunteer, then the volunteers go out and shovel for that match every time there's a snowfall."

Anderson adds there's a great deal of benefits that come from volunteering.

"Anytime you're volunteering you're giving back to the community and helping out someone else," she says. "If you're needing volunteer hours to contribute to your graduation from high school or something like that then those hours can be recorded and used as part of that."
