Foothills MP John Barlow says with the Americans pulling out of the Trans Pacific Partnership, the agreement is basically dead.

However Barlow says there could be some light at the end of the tunnel.

"I think the onus on us now is, you know, there was a strong agreement in principal with the other 11 partners who were part of the TPP. I think now we have to encourage our government to maybe follow through and reach agreements with each individual country."

Barlow says the cancelled agreement could hit producers here, who were excited about new markets in Asia being opened.

He says "I know a lot of our farmers and ranchers were really looking forward to being a part of that agreement."

He says the agreement with South Korea alone would have been worth over a billion dollars a year to the Canadian Agriculture sector, which is why he says he'll do what he can to push for stand alone free trade deals.
