The Conservatives candidate heading into next month's Federal Election in the Foothills Riding opened his campaign office over the weekend in High River.

John Barlow is looking to win his third election in five years and says he's not short of support so far.

"It's amazing the number of people who've stepped up to volunteer, I think the level of engagement this time around is certainly nothing like I've ever seen before. Certainly, it's a positive. But I think it also speaks to the anxiety and the frustration from Albertans when it comes to this Liberal Government."

Barlow says while he's confident of his chances of winning back his seat here says it's a different story for Conservatives in Central and Eastern Canada, who he says will be in for a fight.

"We'll see what happens in Quebec, Ontario and Atlantic Canada. Obviously that's a battle ground. The level of confidence in Atlantic Canada and Quebec and Ontario is still very strong. But we know what's at stake. We have to have a majority Conservative government, otherwise, I firmly believe that Canada's future is on shaky ground."

The Conservatives need to win at least 10 seats in the Maritimes, pick up a few more in Quebec and at least half of Ontario's 121 seats, plus the West to gain the 170 seats they need to form a majority government.

So far no Liberal or NDP Candidates have been nominated for the Foothills riding with only Barlow, the Green Party's Bridget Lacey and Greg Hession from the People's Party of Canada running against Barlow.

Election day is October 21.
