Turner Valley Council stood up and took notice during a presentation during their meeting on Monday.

On hand was Community Relations Specialist, Jason O'Connor, for Internet Service Provider, Axia.

His company wants to bring fibre-optic networks to rural Alberta, particularly the Foothills region.

"We'd love to start building in Black Diamond and Turner Valley this year. We have to get 30% of the community to say they want the service. When we get to 30% or in and around there, then we're coming in and investing in the community and no cost to the municipality, it's actually our investment in your community."

He says slow Internet speed is a real problem in rural Alberta and Axia aims to fix that with their fibre optic network.

He says the biggest issue facing most users moving ahead will be upload speeds, not just download as he says in the next few years video will make up 79% of all uploads and downloads from the Internet, which requires high speeds and high bandwidth.
