The third Okotoks Food Bank food drive took place this past Saturday, with volunteers from the Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints church coming together to pass out bags to homes and return to collect donations.

Sandi Courtorielle, Okotoks Food Bank employee, says the initiative was successful, once again.

"It went quite well. We had a consistent amount of donations coming in, we had lots of help so it was really great. Really successful from our end," she said.

Courtrielle says donations were slightly lower this year, which may be a result of the economy still being in recovery.

"We know that people are still having a bit of a hard time. Even if they've gotten back to work, it's going to take a while to catch up," she said.

The Food Bank received a total of 26,500 lbs of food, with some donations still rolling in from residents who missed the Saturday pick-up.

Volunteers dropped off donation bags throughout last week, returning to pick them up Saturday morning. Donations were sorted at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and delivered to the Food Bank.
