The fire department was on the go non stop last week.

Between summer tours, clinics, weather watches and 24 responses, a few more than the weekly average, the crew stayed busy.

Fire chief Ken Thevenot says responses included a variety of things.

"We attended a couple of grass fires, vehicle accidents, we had one propane leak, medical responses and some alarm system activation's."

Their monthly car seat clinic takes place on the second Wednesday of every month and Thevenot says it was a decent turn out for July.

"We inspect the car seat to see if they are up to date with manufactures specifications to see if they are still within that range and not expired. Also teaching the parents, or grandparents or friends to make sure the little ones are secured in their seats properly. We had 12 individuals show up to that and two other drop ins during the week."

Thevenot says the bump in the river system also added to their list of things to do.

"We had a high stream advisory which was kind of different for us..It's enough to grab our attention. So we put out a mass notification on Friday night, we were checking the water levels at different times just to ensure we weren't getting a spike in the river system that would cause us any flooding."

The fire chief encourages all Okotokians to sign up for the community alert program in the cases of high water advisory's and tornado warnings so residents can  better prepare for those situations.
