The Okotoks Fire Department has had an average week of calls but just enough to keep them busy.

Fire Chief Ken Thevenot says there was 23 calls in total.

"In the past seven days we've responded to 23 calls." Thevenot adds "out of the 23, we had 12 medical responses, 8 motor vehicle accidents, and 3 alarm activation's."

Thevenot says most of the accidents recently have been attributed to the winter driving conditions.

"We had 8 vehicle accidents, some because of the snow conditions we did have in the last seven days.  Overall for us it was just an average week."

The highlight of the week for residents and firefighters alike, may have been the Christmas Eve parade with Santa.

Thevenot says this was the first year the parade had it's own "Santa Tracker."

"The Christmas Eve Parade went very well, we had our new online Santa Tracker, that you could use on the web-site and it worked out very well." Thevenot adds "We're very pleased with the response, we had a lot of good feedback from citizens in Okotoks and lots of people watching the parade.  Everyone had a great time."

In conclusion Thevenot added that he would like to see Okotokians stay safe with the fluctuating weather he's worried that it will create black ice patches on the roads and sidewalks.  Thevenot urges citizens to sand their walkways, and to heed travel advisories when driving.
