The Alberta High School of Fine Arts presented its first annual showcase Wednesday night.

The show featured the performances and art work of this year's graduating class, as well as from featured alumni who have gone and created a career in the arts.

Haley Gray and Julia Sherwood are both 2016 graduates who were featured in the show.

Gray says the showcase was a presentation of the best of the best.

"It's showing the talents of graduates who are pursuing the arts in their post-secondary or other ways that they want to pursue it," Gray says.

Gray, along with classmate Julia Sherwood, were both in the theatre arts program at the school.

Sherwood says over the three years of being part of these programs, students build a family atmosphere that helps them grow as an artist and person.

"The musical theatre and advanced acting programs have been a big part of my high school career, and the music ensemble has been kind of a big deal to be a part of for the last two years," Sherwood says.

Admittance to the event, along with the refreshments at intermission, were by donation.

Sherwood says the money is going towards a good cause.

"The donations will go towards a scholarship for a graduate of this years AHSFA class."

School principal Vince Hunter stood up at the end of the night and told the audience, staff and students that he believed the program could be described in one word: magical.

Hunter went on to explain that he believed the beauty the students and staff could create from their work was a special power that they share with the rest of the community.
