The Town of Okotoks' Visitor and Activities Guide has received national praise.

The tourism booklet won a Marketing Canada Award from the Economic Developers Association of Canada (EDAC).

Economic Development Manager Shane Olson says it's quite the honour for the hours of hard work put into the guide.

"Whenever there's a third party adjudication panel looking at these award, it's quite something to receive that because they don't hand them out quite that easily it goes through a bit of a process on the Canadian level and so for communities our size we were successful win receiving that 2015 award."

Olson says having the guide turn into an active way of "finding" things to do in Okotoks is what separated their guide from others.

"We had the fortune teller cut-out within the guide and of course the fortune teller had the number of things to do which was tied back to that particular tagline (referring to the social media craze the town experienced a couple weeks ago)."

Olson says with all of the media attention they received from the LRT advertising and their tourism guide it's going to be tough to top it if they want to repeat as winners for a EDAC award.

"That's what we're going to take a look at, we're going to have some De-briefing meetings to look at different things that have worked well and maybe not so great to come up with a new campaign for next year."
