The Town of Okotoks capped off Senior's Week with what has become a centrefold in the community.

Okotoks gave thanks to it's seniors citizens with a celebration tea at the Okotoks Rec Centre Friday.

Active Seniors volunteer Marg Cox says the tea has been going on for over two decades.

"We usually conclude it with the senior's tea that's been going on for 25 years in Okotoks," she says. "We're very proud to host it and very excited to invite and see so many people it's just marvellous."

The Tea was put on by Tudor Manor, Heartland Retirement Residence, and the Sandstone Lodge.

Cox says the experience Okotoks has gained from seniors is invaluable.

"Everything from volunteering, helping your neighbours, being on boards and committees to just being involved in the community and a mentor to young people. Many people are grandparents here and they're mentoring their grand kids and so on but there's so many opportunities that we've all learned from the seniors over the years."

Cox added saying seniors play a vital role in making the community special.

"I'm a senior myself and I'm still fairly active and I look around the room and I see lots of people I see at other events doing stuff and they're really enjoying themselves and participating. But the greater thing is we are making positive difference in the community, that's our goal."
