Saturday was a day of remembrance as our veterans and those who currently protect and serve were honoured in Okotoks.

The Town of Okotoks and Okotoks Legion came together for their annual Remembrance Day Service at Pason Centennial Arena.

The service noted that this year marked the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Passchendaele where over 4,000 Canadians were killed and 12,000 were wounded. The Battle of Passchendaele ended on Nov. 10, 1917.

This April also marked one century since the Battle of Vimy Ridge which claimed the lives of roughly 3,600 Canadians and wounded more than 7,000.

It's also been 75 years since the Dieppe Raid of World War II.

A speech by Major Jesse Gabel highlighted how many veterans struggle everyday with PTSD from their war experiences.

The service included performances by the Foothills Philaharmonic Chorus and the Calgary Fire Department's Cappy Smart Band.
