Saturday morning volunteers started to fill a 53 foot trailer with donations for Fort McMurray evacuees.

Verg Reidlinger, owner of Good Time Party Rentals, says that he came up with the idea of sending items up north on Thursday when he was driving to work. He noticed he had a significant amount of chairs and 4 barbeques in his inventory that didn't get used.

The trailer was parked at Okotoks Sobeys and was packed full of donations, from non perishables to toys and much more.

"I'm overwhelmed with the support we have from the community and everyone who has pitched in to help us." Reidlinger says.

Members of the Foothills community came and brought donations from home or went into Sobeys and bought goods to be put in the trailer.

Reidlinger says some chose to donate money which was taken into Sobeys and used to buy items for the evacuees.

"A lot of money was also donated by the town elders, I think it was somewhere up of $20,000."

He says there's still other items the residents of Fort McMurray require.

"I am understanding that right now a big need is clothing, specifically men's work clothing."

Mens and womens personal care items and toiletries are also needed.
