Another busy week for the Okotoks Fire Department in this week's edition of the Fire Report.

Okotoks Fire Chief Ken Thevenot

Fire Chief Ken Thevenot says fire services responded to 23 calls which s above average for the week.

"Two motor vehicle accidents, 13 medical assistance calls, we did a public service response, we had seven alarm system activations, we also had a vehicle leaking some fluid and we attended two fires actually we had a pot on the stove and a deck fire," he says.

For second straight week with a pot on the stove call, Thevenot is reminding Okotokians to be cautious when cooking.

"Double check and even triple check to make sure you're not leaving food unattended when you;re cooking and make sure you have a bit of a plan before you start turning on the elements and putting food on the stove."

The fall clean-up is in full swing and that can means leaves and other plants or organics may need to be disposed of but Thevenot says with the Town's burning by-law they can't be used in your backyard fire pits.

"We can only  use dry wood so we cannot burn leaves or brush because it does give off quite a bit of smoke, usually with those products there's a lot of moisture with them so there's steam smoke that comes off them which can effect neighbours. What we want to do is dispose of them at our compost site or at the landfill."

Fire Prevention Week is just around the corner beginning October 5.
