Family fun got speedy at yesterday's Rotary Clubs 28th Annual Soap Box Derby.

9 year old winner of his heat, Mason Grimm says he had a plan going into the race that helped him win.

"I can't tell you my secret, but I laid down to ease up on the wind resistance, and made sure my cart had a lot of lubrication."

While there was Peace Officers involved to track how fast the kids were flying, Grimm says he knew he was racing.

"I think i was probably going about 30 km/h or more."

Grimm built his cart with his father and says it was really fun to build it, but more fun to finally use it down the road.

Dad, Johanas Grimm says there's a trick to getting the kids involved in building their carts as well.

"The secret was to make something that looked cool." Grimm says "He wanted Nascar so we had to make a race car, but the secret is to really get the weight right."

Grimm shares he is super proud of his son, and thinks it's a cool event to hold in Okotoks.

The Rotary Club of Okotoks uses funds raised from this event towards other youth initiatives in our community.
