One local organization is celebrating it's first year of serving the Foothills.

The 100 Women Who Care Foothills Chapter has donated over $14,000 to many local charities since it's inception.

Founder Karen Love says it's been quite the year.

"The first donation we gave to the Foothills Country Hospice, the second to Rowan House, the third to Literacy For Life and the fourth one was Food For Thought," she says. "Three of those agencies are based in High River but they also serve Okotoks clients as well."

100 Women Who Care meet four times a year and each member donates $100 of their own money towards a charity of their choice through nominations.

As the group continues to grow, Love says they're getting closer and closer to reaching 100 members.

"We're up to 42 members now, so we started with 26 last year and we're looking to keep that growing and reach our 100 plus members."

When asked about the future of the group Love says she'd just like to have more members to give out more money to assist groups.

"We might have another vocation where we'll meet in Okotoks one meeting and then go to maybe High River for the next meeting and that really depends on the new ladies that come and join us. So there's no plans a part from just continuing to support local not for profits."

When 100 Women Who Care turns two in 2017, Love hopes they'll have enough members to suffice themselves 100 women who care instead of just the 42.
