Students at St. John Paul II Collegiate have been competing all morning and afternoon at their annual Track and Field Day, hoping to land a spot in divisionals.

The school is two time zone champions, Tory Bishop, Physical Education Lead says this year they're hoping for a three peat.

"So in our phys ed program for the past month we've been teaching the kids all about the different events so today they've signed up for maximum five minimum three events and they're competing to try to place top 2 to in their division to compete at divisionals and then hopefully zones."

The students are competing in a number of events, including high jump, long jump triple jump, shot put, discus, javelin, and then 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, and 3000m runs.

Bishop shares the students are very talented when it comes to track and field competitions.

"They're quite competitive, we have quite the group of athletes here. A lot of the grade nines this year were part of the zone banner last year, so I'd be watching them because they're pretty good."
