The Calgary Stampeders re-signed a couple of veteran players this week to new deals.

Import offensive lineman, Nila Kasitati is back after spending the better part of two seasons with the Stamps.

In a release from the club, Stamps General Manager, John Hufnagel, is glad to see the hulking offensive lineman back in the fold.

“He had a solid season for us at right tackle in 2019 and he has the ability to once again be an important part of our offensive line this coming season.”

Born in American Samoa and raised in Texas, Kasitati started 16 games at right tackle in 2019, his second season with the Stampeders.

He was part of an offensive line that allowed just 34 sacks, the second-lowest total in the CFL.

Kasitati also started at right tackle for the Western Semi-Final.

“I'm really excited for another opportunity to play for the Stampeders,” said Kasitati. “I can't wait to get back to work.”

The Stampeders also signed Canadian safety Royce Metchie to a new contract. Photo courtesy the Calgary Stampeders.

They also re-signed Canadian safety, Royce Metchie.

Metchie has 24 games under his belt, with 17 starts.

Hufnagel says he's expecting big things from Metchie.

“Royce was very impressive in his first season as a starter at safety and I look forward to watching him continue to develop, He has the ability and intelligence to be an all-star.”

“It’s great to be back in Calgary,” said Metchie. “After all, they gave me the opportunity I needed. I'm excited to be back and excited for the upcoming season.”

He's piled up 48 defensive tackles, 12 more on special teams, three interceptions and a knockdown in his time with the Stamps.
