A mixed bag for locals after night one of the Canadian Finals Rodeo up in Edmonton.

Nanton saddle bronc rider Clay Elliot ended up in the dirt after being bucked off in his first ride, however Stavely's Sam Kelts finished third, getting into the money.

No money for Strathmore bull rider Scott Schiffner as he was bucked off.

Nanton tie down roper Logan Bird finished dead last with a time of 13.9 seconds in the first go-round.

A little more luck in team roping for locals though as Vulcan's Roland McFadden and his partner Devin Wigemyer finished second in team roping with a time of 5.1 seconds, while Nanton's Rocky Dallyn and Okotoks Clint Buhler were fourth.

Mossleigh's Kasper Roy, Strathmore's Riley Roy and Arrowwood's Jeremy Buhler, all finished out of the money in team roping.

And Kole Ashbacher from Arrowood finished in second place in novice saddle bronc, which was good for $800.

The CFR runs through Sunday, November 12 at the Edmonton's Northland's Coliseum.
