The Alberta Junior Hockey League's Board of Governors held its Annual General Meeting this past Saturday in Red Deer.

The Board is looking at ownership changes for two teams with further details to be announced by the teams and the league in the coming days.

In the meantime a proposal has also been made for a change of ownership of the Olds Grizzlies.

The group was granted an extension to June 30, 2017 to meet the various requirements of the league.

The other big change sees the league champion return to a playoff against the B.C. champion rather than the Western Canada Cup that's been held the last few years.

AJHL teams will open Main Camp for the 2017-2018 Season starting on Friday, August 25th.  The 480-game AJHL Regular Season will begin on Friday, September 15th.  Each of the 16 teams will participate in 60 regular season games, including two games at the 2017 AJHL Showcase.  The 2017-2018 League Schedule will be announced in early June.

The AJHL will move to a Full Interlock Schedule for the 2018-2019 Season, in which all 16 teams will play each opponent four times.  The AJHL Board of Governors approved the 2019 Playoff format as follows:

• Top 14 teams qualify for the AJHL Playoffs with the top two teams receiving a first round bye
• All series will be a best-of-seven
• Round One – 3rd vs 14th, 4th vs 13th, 5th vs 12th, 6th vs 11th, 7th vs 10th, 8th vs 9th
• The top seeds play the lowest remaining team and receive home ice advantage throughout Rounds 2-4
