Jacob Bernard-Docker is celebrating the experience of a lifetime.

After an unexpected call on his way home, he intercepted his luggage and headed for Riga, Latvia, to join Team Canada for the 2021 IIHF World Championship.

Though off to a rough start, losing their first three games, they took gold against Finland on June 6.

One of the most important things they did as a team never gave up.

"Hockey is such a weird game. You're never really out of it, whether that's you're down in a game or you're down a few games in the tournament like we were. Really you just got to come to the rink and do your job every day, and at the end of the day the results are going to be what they are."

This was an opportunity he couldn't pass up.

"I think overall it's just been a great learning experience for me. It's always an honour to represent my country, so every time I get the chance to, it's always an awesome experience."

Two months earlier, he made his NHL debut with the Ottawa Senators.
