Thanks to mother nature the Calgary Stampede has had to modify this year's chuckwagon races.

They called it after six heats Monday, July 10, because of heavy rain and lightning which caused safety concerns.

So what'll happen is this:

None of Monday night's results will count towards the aggregate, all the driver's will receive a split of the day money, the re-draw will go Tuesday night based on the first three nights of racing.

And the top eight in the aggregate after seven nights of racing, instead of the usual eight, will head into "Semi Final Saturday."

In the end it was a mixed blessing for local drivers.

Okotoks Mark Sutherland had a good time of 1:12:03 in heat four Monday night before the rain really let loose.

He likely would have moved up from 13th in the aggregate with that time.

On the other hand, High River's Jason Glass, running in heat five, had a time of 1:14:03, which would have likely dropped him farther back than the 18th place he sits in now.

Same story for High River's Jordie Fike who ran a 1:15:10 in heat two which likely would have moved him even further down than 23rd in the aggregate where he sits now.

It's the first time the Stampede has ever had to call the races part-way through.
