The Stavely Indoor Pro Rodeo gets going Thursday, May 10, at the Stavely Arena.

Local saddle bronc rider Sam Kelts says it's great to really get the season going right in his own backyard.

"It's great to have a local rodeo, I'm living in Stavely now, so it technically is my home town rodeo. So, it's a lot of fun and it comes at a time when there's not a lot going for me down south right now for me so I'm going to stay up there the whole weekend. It's a lot of fun for me."

Points from this rodeo go towards qualifying for the Canadian Finals Rodeo at the end of the year, so Kelts says that's an incentive to do well.

He says they've also increased the prize money, particularly for the saddle bronc, which he's excited about.

Performances go Thursday, Friday, May 11 and Saturday, May 12, all starting at 7 o'clock.
