Chuckwagon drivers have to do a lot of their own work when it comes to finding sponsorship for six of the WPCA's eight races this year.

Grand Prairie and Ponoka have their own auctions, but High River's Jordie Fike says driver's need to rustle up their own sponsors for the other shows.

"This year we're finding our own sponsors, which we were doing before, it's just we don't have to go through the auction sale to make it official. We make a deal with whoever we've got, and we submit that to the WPCA and that's who we run for, so it's kind of eliminating an expense and a night."

Fike says he actually likes doing it this way, as he ends up with more money in his pocket and a larger circle of contacts and potential sponsors.

The WPCA season gets rolling Wednesday, May 30 in Grande Prairie.
