Kurt Bensmiller is simply unstoppable.

The Dewberry Cowboy took his third Calgary Stampede Rangeland Derby title in the last four years Sunday, July 16, coming off barrel two.

he edged out Obrey Motowylo, who was competing in his first ever Stampede "Dash for Cash" final.

Motowylo, coming off barrel four gave Bensmiller a race, but in the end the veteran reinsman edged him out by just under a second.

Chanse Vigen was a close third, while Logan Gorst was fourth after taking a five second penalty for knocking a barrel.

Bensmiller's now won three straight shows starting here in High River on a special day.

"I won High River on my Mom's Birthday and then won Calgary here on Dad's (Buddy Bensmiller) birthday. So the same as he did when he won it in 1989, Dad won it off the two barrel, and I won it off the two barrel tonight. So everything just kind of added up to work in our favour."

The crowd, fellow drivers and outriders all paid a well deserved tribute to "The King" Kelly Sutherland as well.

He won the fifth heat, and before leaving the track was mobbed by drivers and outriders and had a standing ovation from the crowd, which he acknowledged with a tip of his hat and his traditional "thumbs up" as he took his last lap around the track as he'll retire at the end of the season with 12 Stampede titles under his belt.
