Two people were arrested after a break-in at a Telus cell tower a few days ago.

On June 1 at around 5:21 a.m., Strathmore RCMP was contacted by Telus with a report of a break-in in progress at a cell tower in Wheatland County.

Police were given a description of the suspects and a vehicle by the Telus employee, and the pair were found trying to flee the area.

Officers performed a "high risk" take down, whereafter both suspects exited the vehicle.

A search of the car turned up a large amount of copper wire, as well as break-in tools and cutting implements.

The green 1999 Toyota Sienna the suspects were driving had also been reported as driving suspiciously in Foothills County earlier.

The male suspect, 45-year-old Ryan Watson of Calgary, was found to be wanted on nine outstanding warrants in four other jurisdictions.

He's facing the following charges:

  • Break and Enter with Intent to Commit an Indictable Offence;

  • Theft Over $5,000;

  • Possession of Break in Tools; and

  • Operating a MV Without an Operators License.

He was released on documents to appear at a future date.

The female suspect, who was not identified by RCMP as she hasn't yet been charged, was released to attend a future court date where charges will be laid.
