The province is monitoring wild waterfowl and shore birds for possible avain influenza virus.
The surveillance program is focusing during migration from July to October.
The birds may have used arctic breeding grounds, and might have come into contact with birds from aisa.
Dave Ealey with the province is asking for the publics help.
They're asking people who see shorebirds that are dead to take them to fish and wildlife offices.
Ealey says the birds should be submitted fresh, or frozen if they cannot be delivered within 24 hours.
Rotten or dried carcasses cannot be tested for avian flu.
