The Dewdney Players are bringing a one-act play to the Rotary Performing Arts Centre (RPAC) this week.

Able Cable is a comedic tale of a man trying to solve a simple problem that quickly flies off the rails as the pressure mounts and his sanity decreases.

Daniel Rose, who plays the frustrated customer in question, said;

“It’s a pretty basic premise that seems to be familiar to a lot of people. You have your average guy, John Smith, who needs to call his cable company. He’s got some questions about his cable service he’s having issues. What he thinks is going to be a quick, easy fix, is not, as anyone who has called any kind of service number can relate to.”

Writer Gordon Dawson unsurprisingly took inspiration from real-life experience, elevating that familiar frustration to the nth degree.

Being a one-act play, the cast is limited to just a few local stars.

“It’s myself and Lou Moan, she’s playing the various call centre people who I am bounced between and transferred around to. We also have Dayna Coles as my lovely wife who grows ever more exasperated that this phone call will not end, and then Debbie Sands comes on with some signs for the time skips, ‘5 minutes later, 10 minutes later,” says Rose.

The Dewdney Players usually show a few one-act plays back-to-back, so with Able Cable being the only production of the night, they’ve also invited some local musicians to open the night on alternating evenings.

Brettyn Rose will be performing on March 23, 25, and 30, and Dwight Forseth will be performing on March 24 and 31, as well as April 1.
