The 1st Scouts of Okotoks and High River are back with an annual tradition: selling Christmas trees.

Fundraising coordinator with the 1st Okotoks Scots, Jackie Huever, says the longstanding tradition is a major source of funding.

"We've been operating this tree lot for over 30 years and it's one of our biggest fundraisers for our group. It really allows everybody to come out, put in a shift, and meet with our local community. I think that's the nice thing, is that we're out and visible."

"I think people feel good stopping in and getting it from the scouts, knowing it's going to our programming, which allows our kids to go to camps. Right now our Beavers are doing field trips on weekly nights, so they're going and doing various activities across town, that's what we use a lot of the funds for, equipment for camping, things like that."

It's also beloved by locals, who've made it a part of their Christmas routine.

"We've had people anxiously waiting for our tree lot to open. We have a lot of return customers who'll be down to collect their trees."

In Okotoks, the scouts can be found in the Safeway parking lot from 4:30-7:30 p.m. on weekdays, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends.

They offer B.C. Douglas Firs for $5/ft, Balsam Firs for $90, and Frasier Firs for $95.

Orders for pickup can be placed on their website.

The 1st High River Scouts are at a new location, 103 Macleod Trail SW next to Kids Connection. They're offering standard trees for $40 and premium trees for $120.

They'll be there from 407 p.m. on weekdays, and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends.
