A computer coding event is planned for Thursday, June 1 at Senator Riley Middle School.

Over 100 middle school students will come to High River for a data science "hackathon."

One of the challenges the students will face is 'drawing' a Pokémon character through coding.

The event is designed to challenge students' abilities to develop problem-solving, computational thinking and general programming skills using data science.

It's being organized Callysto, a learning program supported by the federal government to bring data science and digital literacy skills to classrooms across the country.

The Foothills School Division will also be replicating the event on June 26 and 27 at the Okotoks Junior High School.
