The Cavalry FC of the Canadian Premier League has a special game lined up this Saturday and will be looking for 3 points.

The club just suffered their first loss of their soccer season last Sunday.

They travelled to Toronto for a match against York United and lost 1-0.

Cavalry is now 1-5-1 with 8 points and sits in fourth place in the eight-team league.

They will look for a win this Saturday afternoon as they host the Hamilton Forge, the number one team in the league.

Kickoff is at 2 p.m. as they host a special match on ATCO Field at Spruce Meadows.

The Indigenous Peoples celebration match will honour Indigenous communities with several initiatives including a special ceremony ahead of kick-off.

The Lower Plaza will host an informative Powwow demonstration in the Rümi stage area with storytelling and explanations of each dance. Some Indigenous vendors will be on hand and all 50/50 donations from all the Cavalry home games are going to the Iyarhe Nakoda Food Bank.

Cole Crook, VP of Indigenous Relations at ATCO is proud to sponsor the day.

"We are incredibly proud to be involved in the Indigenous Peoples celebration. ATCO has long stood for creating healthy vibrant communities, forming strong relationships, and supporting educational and athletic events that promote growth and the pursuit of excellence. All these elements will intersect at ATCO Field on June 3.

Team partners Trico Homes and Marmot Construction along with Cavalry FC have invited more than 430 Indigenous athletes and their families from Team Alberta ahead of the North American Indigenous Games.  Some of the athletes invited play on three soccer teams that will compete in the 2023 games in Halifax.

President and COO of Cavalry FC, Ian Allison is thrilled with the partnership.

"It is an honour and pleasure for Cavalry FC and our partners to work with and recognize the Indigenous Communities here on the traditional territories of the Treaty 7 Nations and the Metis Nation of Region 3. Not only will the day recognize rich history and traditions, but it will also celebrate the future and sport. The young Indigenous athletes that will join us on June 3, and thousands more across this land, will play an important part in the day and the future.”

Cavalry FC hosts Forge FC from Hamilton this Saturday, June 3 at 2:00 p.m. on ATCO Field at Spruce Meadows.
